Background
In line with the attempts of the Indonesian government
through the Ministry of Education and Culture to continue to improve the
quality of the learning and teaching process of the English language at
schools, and grabbing the challenges of The 2013 National Curricullum, it is
crucial for English teachers/lecturers as the main actors and other parties
interested in English Education to help themselves to improve their
competencies. One of the ways to improve their competencies is through a
professional development. Through a professional developmen, it is hoped that English
teachers/lecturers/instructors can help themselves in revitalizing their
professionalism.
In the current context, however, the professionalism of
teachers still raises questions; for example how we define professionalism, how
we develop it, and who plays a decisive role in promoting professionalism. Since
this conference covers major topics, such as technology in language teaching,
professional competence, teaching material development, classroom action
research, reflective teaching, and evaluation issues, it is expected that the National
IETA Conference 2013 becomes a fruitful and constructive forum for English educators
to be more able to serve others, especially students at school far and wide.
Objectives
The general objective of this conference is to increase the
competencies of English teachers, lecturers, and practitioners trough a professional
development in order to explore and discuss, among others, issues of
evaluation, reflective teaching, classroom action research (CAR), teacher’s
professional competence and teaching material development. The conference also
provides opportunities for participants to demonstrate teaching models.

The conference will discuss some issues, such as:

Conference goals
1. To seek various ways of developing the professionalism of
English teachers
3. To develop a community of learners among English teachers (in
teachers' association)
Plenary Speakers/Invited Speakers
These are formal lecture presentations by
distinguished scholars in the field specially invited by IETA, lasting
forty-five minutes plus fifteen minutes question time. The plenary speakers in the conference are, among others:

Parallel Speakers
These
are formal lecture presentations lasting thirty minutes plus ten minutes
question time.

1. English teachers of ‘SD/MI, SMP/MTs, SMA/MA, dan SMK’ in South
Sumatera and other
provinces.
2. Lecturers of ‘PTN dan PTS’
all over Indonesia
3. Teacher and Lectures of
English language from overseas
4. Teachers/Instructors of English Courses.
Procedure
for Submission of Parallel Paper Proposals
- A 150-200 word abstract with a title not exceeding 12 words and a 50 word biodata should be sent to the Seminar Secretariat no later than 5 February 2013. Abstracts outside the word limit will not be accepted.
- The Seminar Planning Committee will inform proposers by 20 February 2013 whether their proposals have been accepted. Presenters are required to confirm participation with payment of registration fees by 25 February 2013 and to register for the seminar.
- A soft copy of the completed text of the paper selected for the Seminar must be sent to the Seminar Secretariat no later than 25 February 2013. If these are not received by this date, the Committee reserves the right to withdraw the paper from presentation.
- The paper including biodata should each be 7-10 pages, A4 paper, 1.5 space, Times New Roman, font 12, in MS Word in soft copy to be submitted to slamet_c@yahoo.com not later than 25 February 2013.
Teaching Demonstration
The lesson plan includes the material, media and 5 students
if possible. Time allocation is 30 minutes. (The deadline, the announcement of
the accepted proposal, the date registration and payment are the on the same
days of the deadlines of the parallel paper proposal)
Registration
Paper presenter(s) and conference participant(s) should register and pay the
conference fee of Rp. 200,000 to cover conference kit, refreshment and lunch in
the venue. The deadline of the registration is 28 February 2013.
